Currently, Garda is seeking a Data Engineer Intern (Python) to support its Inflation Trading Team in Zug, Switzerland. This six-month internship, set to begin immediately, offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience with the technical and operational aspects of a hedge fund specializing in fixed-income investments.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will assist in designing and deploying new Python-based solutions for managing and analyzing financial data. Core duties include developing and automating data pipelines to collect inflation-related information from diverse online sources. This role also involves establishing database schemas for efficient data storage and retrieval, managing data ingestion and transformation workflows, and ensuring comprehensive documentation of data models and processes for future scalability and maintenance. Additionally, the intern will provide support for both proprietary and third-party applications used by the trading team.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
Ideal candidates are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Quantitative Finance. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with popular libraries within the Python ecosystem is essential. Candidates should also have a foundational understanding of computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and operating systems, as well as basic experience with object-oriented programming.
While prior knowledge of financial trading (especially in fixed income) is beneficial, it’s not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to high coding standards, as well as effective communication skills. This internship requires a high-energy, team-oriented individual ready to adapt to the fast-paced, dynamic nature of the financial sector.
